摘要:
美国梦作为一种民族理想，本该具有强大的生命力,然而,菲茨杰拉德的 《了不起的盖茨比》却宣布了它的破碎与幻灭,原因何在?（1）理想的社会根基遭到腐蚀,群体精神生命的萎缩会使得个人的精神追求与人生理想缺乏伸展的空间和实现的条件与可能性.（2）理想若不能穿透和摒弃虚妄，突破狭隘自我，幻灭则是必然的。

Abstract:
American dream, as a kind of national ideal, should have been powerful and vigorous; however, Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” declared its disillusion. Why? The broken dream is a natural outcome of the withering collective spiritual life of the American society, which deprived the dream of necessary room and support. Besides, a dream is destined to break if it fails to penetrate through and cast away the illusive elements and if it has lost its spiritual significance
