An-renFang, one of the residential wards of Tang Chang'an City, was located in the third row south of the imperial city and the first column east of Zhuque Avenue, hence the heart area of Chang'an City roughly. With the development of archaeological work in recent years, a large number of relics and residents'epitaphs in An-ren Fang reappeared, which provides important material for the study of residential mansions of local people. In the Tang Dynasty, a variety of prestigious people were once living here, such as high-rank officers, noble relatives, eminentmonks, lay Buddhists, etc..The background of their mansions were diverse and complicated, for some were built on their own, some were rewarded by emperors, some were ancestral homes passed on from generation to generation and so on so forth. This situation is closely related to political identity, economic financial resources, and ideology of homestead owners, and also influenced by Confucianism, folk customs and religious faith. Thus, under the hierarchy in the Tang Dynasty, the living space of An-ren Fang residents was constrained to a certain extent with a distinct spatial-temporal difference of mansion distribution.
