欧.亨利的小说蕴含着丰富的生态思想?他关注人类非诗意的栖居,即人类所遭受的种种精神危机,如人类崇尚金钱至上,精神被异化，扭曲甚至阉割。对此,欧.亨利进行了鞭策,与此同时,他还致力于寻求解除人类精神危机的途径,追求诗意的栖居,简单的生活与回归自然集中体现了欧.亨利的“诗意栖居”思想

O?Henry’s works are full of ecological thoughts.Paying much attention to non-poetic dwelling of human beings,O.Henry scourges the spiritual crisis suffered by people such as the spiritual breakdown,the spiritual alienation,the spiritual emasculation and so on.Meanwhile,he devotes himself to seeking for the solution to the crisis by pursuing poetic dwelling.Living a simple life and getting back to Nature is the core of O.Henry’s thought of poetic dwelling.
