Craft of Gardens, a book written by Ji Cheng in the Ming Dynasty, contains rich ecological implication. The guiding ideology of “man-made garden looks like the craft of natural creation” in Graft of Gardens is consistent with the Chinese philosophy that “man is an integral part of nature”. Under its influence, Chinese-style garden is an ecological art and an integrated whole of heaven, earth and man. Ji Cheng's arrangement and application of various gardening elements creates a poetic space and makes the garden a good ecological place for people to live in. On the basis of the aesthetics of fecundity of life in gardening, Ji Cheng elaborated further in the chapter “Xiangdi” the aesthetical feeling of the fecundity of life brought about by various kinds of garden life. From the eco-aesthetic perspective the ecological concept of the integration of nature and man, the a poetic space with beauty of all things, and the life philosophy of the aesthetics of fecundity of life that are embodied in Craft of Gardens would all illustrate its theoretical guiding value for the current ecological civilization construction.
